Chippenham, Wiltshire-based SW Hire has raised £16,181.50 for two local charities, following its inaugural open day and charity ball. It was the first event of its kind for the Wiltshire hirer, and MD Simon Williams said he was over-whelmed by support from agricultural and construction machinery suppliers, and customers from all over the country.

“The SW Hire Charity Ball was a huge success, and was attended by 390 guests and sponsors,” explained Simon. “All those who bought tickets to the Ball enjoyed a great three course meal ahead of an evening of music and entertainment, plus an auction of fabulous prizes that had been donated to help raise money for our chosen charities.”

Cheffins auctioneer Martin Millard was on-hand during the event, and using his time-honed skills, he helped to raise over £6,000 during the evening’s auction. All monies raised are being shared between the Wiltshire Air Ambulance near Calne, and Dorothy House Hospice Care near Bath – both charities have, in one way or another, helped the SW Hire team and people that it knows.

“We all know – or have been involved with – both charities,” said Simon. “And being able to host a great event to raise money for these two worthwhile charities, has been extremely rewarding.”

Prior to the Charity Ball getting underway, the SW Hire Open Day saw over 200 visitors pass through the gates to see the latest agricultural and construction machinery and equipment available for nationwide hire for the 2018 season. In addition to a pig roast and hot drinks, visitors had the chance to donate money from taking part at an electronic clay shoot, and also competing against the clock using a mini excavator to transfer ducks of different sizes from one make-shift pond to another.
