With a history going back to 1928 in Finland, Valtra first entered the tractor market under the Valmet name in 1951. The Swedish Volvo BM began working with Valmet in 1979 to produce a new tractor range as the Volvo BM Valmet as a joint venture with the first tractors appearing in 1982 and Valmet later bought the entire business, trading now as Valmet and then Valtra Valmet, the parent company becoming Sisu-Valmet in 1994. In 2001 the tractor name was changed to Valtra in 2001 and the company was bought by AGCO in 2002. Today a large range of models are still built in Finland and sold around the world.
