Case dates back to 1842 building threshing machines in Wisconsin. Tractors were soon added to the product line-up and by the 1980s large four-wheel steer machines were being produced, smaller tractors including those built by David Brown after this firm was taken over in 1972. In 1985 Case was merged with IH to form Case IH and new products such as the Magnum tractor soon arrived and the Axial-Flow combine continued to be produced. In 1999 Fiat bought Case IH and merged it with New Holland.
